Disgrace: International Observers to Monitor US Presidential Elections

Even though they have no legal authority to effect the process itself, a group of 10 election observers from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe have been invited to monitor the election by the State Department.  The observers will come from the OSCE's Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights.  I don't know about anyone else, but I find it disgraceful that the US is subjecting itself to outside monitoring of elections.  What's next?  UN run elections in the US?  Full article.

Right Wing,

I find it very odd. The puropse of such a an organization or committee (OSCE) would be to monitor elections in Haiti or perhaps Iraq, Rwanda.... in a country where there are illegalities or voter duress going on, but in the US? This appears to be an attempt by the Democrats to bellyache some more over the lost 2000 elections and the screw up in Florida.

It also has a slight unconsitutional feel. By that I mean something feels unAmerican or politically amiss to have Europe, of all places, supervise us! I don't get the feeling they really are concerned with the US except to put us in our place as they see it.

Amy what is unconstitutional about an independent organization monitoring the election and issuing a report? The press proved in 2000 that they are not up to the task; Bush's cousin at Fox declared him the winner (when it was too close to call) and the sheep at NBC, ABC, CNN, CBS, all followed. The AP did not, but not many people noticed.

You don't think that there are "illegalities or voter duress" taking place here in the US? Hmm...see http://finance.messages.yahoo.com/bbs?.mm=FN&action=m&board=7080664&tid=awa&sid=7080664&mid=73194.

Rob, no I don't think there are "Illegalities or voter duress" taking place in the US. Non and potential voters have been wooed and .... to the point that the average American of voting age doesn't even have to get off his lazy butt to go to the poll and participate in the beauty of election day itself. He can register while at the DMV, Post Office, even the grocery store, and then can send in a vote early to avoid the crowds. Or maybe he can vote over the internet.

I didn't say it was unconstitutional to have the OSCE monitor us, I said it "feels". I suspect it is out of sync with Americanism. Interal US monitor agencies are of course welcomed. I do not believe we're so dysfunctional as a nation that we cannot collect an oversight committee from within. I'll stand by everything else I said in the above post.

As for your link, it's flimsy apologetics (so to speak) to use some anonymous message on a board at Yahoo to prove your point. If some credible Republican were to suggest we surpress the black vote in any city, shame on him. We Republicans know freedom is for ALL. Try more credible sources next time.

If you want to invoke the words "media" and "sheep" you'd better wake up and realize that the dominant media culture is roundly behind Kerry-Edwards and that they promote their agenda as a means to futher their own (internationalism, multi-culturalism, abortion-on-demand, homosexual marriage, etc... and that they are more than complicit in causing problems in a free election by their shameless demagoguery.

Johnny,
ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, and Fox are all huge global corporations. Their duty is to make money for their shareholders.

Q. Who is the friend of big corporations?
A. The GOP is.

There are plenty of places to find real news without a corporate filter; unfortunately, none of those mentioned can really be objective.

And, Johnny, you need to wake up and realize that homosexual marriage is a non-issue, internationalism (the doctrine that nations should cooperate because their common interests are more important than their differences) is a GOOD thing, and your religious beliefs (about abortion and homosexuality) have no place in our Constitution and laws.

Amy, yes, an average American "can register while at the DMV, Post Office", etc. But, Katherine Harris can sit on her "lazy butt" and have his name taken off the voter rolls because it "sounds black".

As for the swiftvets ad, follow the money.
